About the Panasonic KX-NT553

The Panasonic KX-NT553 is a reliable, feature-rich IP desk phone widely used in Brisbane businesses running Panasonic phone systems. It features a large monochrome display, three-line LCD, 12 programmable keys and support for wired headsets.

Training Topics

Making & Receiving Calls

  1. Lift the handset or press the Speaker button to get a dial tone.
  2. Dial the extension number or external number (prefix 0 for outside line).
  3. To answer an incoming call, lift the handset or press the flashing line key.
  4. Press the Speaker button to use hands-free.

Transferring a Call

  1. While on a call, press the Transfer button.
  2. Dial the extension you want to transfer to.
  3. Announce the call, then hang up to complete the transfer (attended transfer).
  4. Or hang up immediately after dialling for a blind transfer.

Placing a Call on Hold

  1. Press the Hold button during an active call.
  2. The line key will flash to indicate the call is on hold.
  3. Press the flashing line key to retrieve the held call.
  4. If the call is not retrieved within the timeout, it will ring back to your phone.

Voicemail

  1. Press the Message button (envelope icon) or dial the voicemail extension.
  2. Follow the prompts to listen to, save or delete messages.
  3. To record your greeting, press 3 from the voicemail main menu.
  4. A red light on the phone indicates you have unheard messages.

Speed Dials & Directory

  1. Press a pre-programmed DSS/BLF key to dial a speed dial number directly.
  2. Press the Directory soft key to search the internal phone book.
  3. Use the navigation keys to scroll through contacts, then press Call.
  4. To save a number to personal speed dial, press Menu > Speed Dial > Add.

Do Not Disturb (DND)

  1. Press the DND button or soft key to activate Do Not Disturb.
  2. Callers will hear a busy tone or be redirected to voicemail.
  3. Press DND again to turn it off — the indicator light will go out.
  4. DND can be set on a schedule via the system administrator.

Conference Calls

  1. While on a call, press the Conference button.
  2. Dial the third party and wait for them to answer.
  3. Press the Conference button again to join all parties together.
  4. Hang up your handset to leave the call — the other parties remain connected.

Call Forward

  1. Press Menu > Call Forward to access forwarding options.
  2. Choose Always, On Busy, or No Answer forwarding.
  3. Enter the destination number (extension or external number).
  4. Press Save. A forward indicator will appear on the display.

Quick Reference Tips

Redial Press the Redial button to call the last number dialled.
Mute Press the Mute button to silence your microphone during a call — the LED will flash.
Volume Use the Volume Up/Down keys to adjust handset, headset or speaker volume.
Line Keys Flashing green = incoming call. Solid green = call in progress. Flashing red = call on hold.
Headset Press the Headset button to toggle your wired headset on/off.
Intercom Press the Intercom button and dial an extension for a hands-free page to that phone.
